Macon City Council made its final budget adjustment Tuesday night to close out the 2008 fiscal year, which ended June 30.
About $1.75 million was shifted around within the budget to reflect actual spending, covering deficits in some departmental line items while drawing down surpluses in others.
The books must be balanced before they are officially closed and audited.
To cover all the costs, the city also had to dip into reserve money, most of which is generated through salaries saved by vacant positions. Nearly $465,000 was moved from reserves, which were particularly needed for additional overtime expenses caused by the Mother’s Day tornado.
