Anyone interested in serving in vacant posts on the Houston County school board has about a week to put his or her name in for consideration.
According to a Thursday release, residents can submit a resume with a letter of interest by Aug. 5. via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail to the board office, attention Morton, P.O. Box 1850, Perry, Georgia, 31069. Final selections will be made by the remaining five board members.
The seats for Districts 2 and 3 will be open after Friday because board Chairman Marianne Melnick and board member Skip Dawkins have resigned. Melnick is moving to a different part of the county, while Dawkins is moving to West Virginia.
District 2 covers much of the area in the western portion of the county between Ga. 96 and Watson Boulevard, while District 3 encompasses the southern portion of the county, which includes Perry. To view the district map, visit the board of education page at hcbe.net.

Those chosen for seats will serve until March 1, when an election will be held to fill the unexpired terms of Melnick and Dawkins.
