Two Houston BOE members vacating seats

Two Houston County school board members, including the board’s chairwoman, will vacate their posts at Tuesday’s regular meeting.

Chairwoman Marianne Melnick and Skip Dawkins will be honored for their service at the meeting and at a reception afterward.

“Both board members are resigning their seats on the Board of Education this month due to moves to homes outside of their districts,” Beth McLaughlin, the district’s director of community and school affairs, said in an email Friday.

Dawkins has served on the board for more than 19 years, while Melnick has served for eight years.

Interim replacements will be appointed by the board until the next statewide election on March 1.
