Mercer announces $237M operating budget

The Mercer University board of trustees approved a record budget and some changes on Friday.

An operating budget of more than $237.1 million comes with a limit of a 2 percent increase on undergraduate tuition and no tuition increase for the law, medical and nursing schools.

In addition, the board announced a new Bachelor of Fine Arts degree that will add a more “in-depth study of the arts” to the current art major, according to a release from the university.

Trustees also approved new interdisciplinary majors in neuroscience and criminal justice.

Further, the board authorized the expansion of the cafeteria on the Macon campus, which is expected to be completed by the fall 2015 semester. The Fresh Food Co. will increase food service capacity and add 300 seats.

The long-term future of the Connell Student Center, which houses the Fresh Food Co., has not been determined.
