Autopsy: Georgia College student found dead in residence hall had no bodily injuries

A Georgia College & State University student found dead in a residence hall suffered no trauma to her body, according to preliminary autopsy results the university released Tuesday.

The state medical examiner has completed the autopsy on 21-year-old Lauren Gainey, but both the manner and cause of death are pending further testing, Brittiny Johnson, media relations manager at Georgia College, wrote in an email.

“There are no signs of foul play,” she wrote.

Gainey, a junior at the university, was found Monday morning at The Village apartments on West Campus, according to a university news release. The Milledgeville Police Department and GBI are assisting campus police in the investigation.

“The Georgia College community extends our most heartfelt condolences to Lauren’s family members and friends,” the release states. “On a close-knit campus such as ours, a tragic loss such as this impacts many members of the campus community. The university has counselors available for any individual or group on campus who needs assistance.”
