Three local colleges ranked in national study

U.S. News & World Report on Thursday listed Mercer University, Wesleyan College and Georgia College & State University in several categories among its annual list of top colleges in America.

Mercer was named one of the South’s Top 10 schools for the 11th straight year, ranking eighth in “Best Universities — Masters” and also earned a No. 7 ranking with undergraduate teaching.

Mercer was sixth in the South for “Great Schools, Great Prices” while the School of Engineering is ranked in the Top 50 in that category.

Georgia College was ranked 11th in “Best Universities — Masters” in the South and ranked 31st overall among Southern colleges and universities.

The university tied for sixth with Bellarmine University for up-and-coming Masters Universities in the South.

Wesleyan wasn’t ranked numerically overall, but was listed in several categories, including: fourth in the nation for international students among liberal arts colleges; 13th for racial diversity; fifth for highest proportion of classes under 20; 14th for least debt among liberal arts colleges; and in the third tier of Best Liberal Arts Colleges.
