Wesleyan awards scholarships to students

Two Howard High School students recently earned Wesleyan First Awards, which are scholarships if the two choose to attend Wesleyan College after they graduate high school.

Christina Mayfield and Morgan Cramer, who attend Howard High in Bibb County, were presented the awards, which are given to a high school sophomore or junior with at least a 3.0 grade point average, community service involvement and show strong leadership skills, according to a Wesleyan news release.

The award includes a book and a scholarship valued at $5,000 a year if the student attends Wesleyan College in Macon.

The Wesleyan College Alumnae Association created the award last year and also have awarded them to high school students in Columbus, Atlanta and Florida.

Wesleyan is a four-year liberal arts college for women and affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
