FORT VALLEY — The proposed four-day furloughs for Peach County school district employees won’t affect their contributions to the Teacher Retirement System, Superintendent Susan Clark said Thursday.
Clark spoke at a second public hearing to a crowd of about 30 employees and residents, down by half from Wednesday.
“The furloughs will not affect state salaries, just the local supplements to teachers,” Clark said in response to a question. “So contributions to the TRS will not be hurt.”
The school system is considering the furloughs and other measures to help make up an anticipated $2 million shortfall in the fiscal year 2010 budget from loss of state funding.
School bus drivers and monitors will not have to take furloughs. The school board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a tentative $61.5 million budget that could include a 1.5 millage rate increase. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the board offices on Vineville Street.
