The Bibb County school board approved its 2010-11 school calendar Thursday. In fall 2010, students will start school Aug. 3.Spring break 2011 would be April 18-22 and the last school day in 2011 is May 19.
The school board also approved ending its high school alternative program at Neel Academy in order to provide an ombudsman program for those students instead.
Other highlights included approving a five-year school facilities plan that calls for building a new Heard Elementary School and four additional elementary schools while closing seven aging schools.
And the system hired Sharon Joyner as its new career, technical and agricultural education director to replace Beverly McCullough, who is leaving to spend time with family. Joyner currently works in the system’s CTAE department.
The board also approved the following appointments: Efrem Yarber, principal of Bloomfield Middle School; Emanuel Frazier, principal of Union Elementary; and Latricia Reeves, principal of Carter Elementary School.
