Northeast High School band director resigns after allegation

A teacher and band director at Northeast High School resigned last week after an allegation of inappropriate contact with a female student surfaced, Bibb County school system officials said.

Phillip Reynolds, who was in his first year as Northeast’s band director, turned in his resignation, said Rob Sumowski, director of student safety for the school system.

The case has been referred to the Macon Police Department. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Melanie Hofmann said she hasn’t seen the case file of the incident.Sumowski said the female student reported the incident to Northeast administrators April 16, and the school system immediately began investigating. Sumowski said the investigation is ongoing.

“It’s still on our radar,” he said. “We’re looking into every aspect of it.”Sumowski said no other incidents had been previously reported about Reynolds.
