The Bibb County school board voted during its committee meeting Thursday to allow Superintendent Sharon Patterson to negotiate a lease agreement between the school system and Florida Telcom Services.
Site visits and meetings with district officials would help determine if any school locations are suitable spots to place cell phone towers.
“It would be a revenue source,” Patterson told the board. In these tough economic times, the system needs to explore all forms of revenue, she said. The board would still have to approve which school sites, if any are deemed favorable, and approve a monetary agreement.
The board also approved in committee a partnership with Fort Valley State University to allow high school seniors to participate in a dual enrollment and enrichment program. High school seniors could earn college course credits from FVSU while still in high school. Similar partnerships exist with Wesleyan College and Macon State College.
