Jim Lebrun, superintendent of Jones County Schools, said school board members will meet Tuesday to discuss plans to reduce the size of the system’s teacher force for the 2009-2010 school year because of budget reductions.
Lebrun said Jones County, like most Georgia school systems, has received less state money for the upcoming year. Limiting contract renewals for a number of positions is one step being considered, he said.
“I really can’t give you any details until after the board meeting Tuesday. We’re in the process of looking at our personnel needs,” he said. “At this point, all I can say is we’re receiving less and less funds from the state and we are having to look at how to provide salaries to teachers.
