One of the nation’s largest private timber land owners, Plum Creek Timber Co., will award $1,000 scholarships in 2009 to select high school graduates from Jones County.
The Plum Creek Community Scholarship program helps students pursue studies in a field of their choice, recognizing those in good academic standing who have demonstrated leadership through school activities and community service.
“In this economy, supporting young adults who have the opportunity to go to college or to learn advanced skills is one of the best ways we can help them get ahead,” said Charlie Cornish, senior resource manager for Plum Creek in Georgia.
The application must be postmarked Jan. 23, 2009, with selection scheduled to take place in the spring. The Plum Creek Community Scholarship is a one-time award in the amount of $1,000 to be disbursed for fall 2009 enrollment. Applications and information about the program can be found at http://sms.scholarshipamerica.org/plumcreek/ or by calling (507) 931-1682.
