Educator news: Teacher receives grant for classroom library, professor travels to South Africa

  • Angie Battle, fourth-grade teacher at Langston Road Elementary School in Houston County, received a $500 grant for her classroom library from author James Patterson earlier this semester. She also will be able to get additional books and resources through 500 "bonus points" from Scholastic Book Clubs.
  • Paige Welch, graphics instructor at Hutchings College and Career Academy, was among 20 people selected for the 2017-2018 CTAE LEAD program. She will participate in leadership development sessions during the year.

  • Thomas Terrill, associate professor of animal science at Fort Valley State University, was selected to serve as a Fulbright Specialist for three years. His first assignment was in November in South Africa, where he introduced a new system to help farmers. He conducted a workshop and partnered with experts in education, politics, culture, economics and science.
