Student news: Mercer students win scholarships from Department of Defense

▪  Mercer University senior Josephine Mazurkiewicz and junior Michael Gentry, both electrical engineering majors, are recipients of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation Scholarship. The award earns them free tuition, annual stipends and other perks for each year they commit to work for the Department of Defense after they graduate. They will serve as interns and eventually civilian employees at Robins Air Force Base.

▪  Northside High School FFA member Brianna Beard placed first in the junior division of the Central Regional Floral Design Career Development Event in September. Kelly Patel won first in the senior division. Both students will compete in the state contest Dec. 1.

▪  Evan Haslund of Warner Robins is Georgia Military College’s first online graduate of the Bachelor of Applied Science Degree Program in Business Management. He completed his classes in late September.
