Local students honored with awards, scholarships

▪  Rachel Hastings, of Byron, was selected as the Class of 2017 President’s Scholar for Middle Georgia State University. She graduated with a degree in new media and communications in May and spoke at the school’s commencement ceremonies.

▪  Elizabeth McCullers, of Macon, received the Spring 2017 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the College of the Arts at Valdosta State University. She had the highest grade point average in the College of the Arts.

▪  Haley Pulsifer, a Perry High School graduate attending Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College this fall, was named the 2017 president of Georgia Dairy Youth Foundation. She served as vice president of her high school’s FFA chapter, showed livestock competitively for 10 years, and has competed in FFA events at the state and national level.

▪  The Houston County Bar Association awarded $500 scholarships to Colin Thomas, of Northside High School; Rachel Moore and Tucker Mercier, Houston County High; Alyssa Waters, Perry High; and Alyssa Etheridge, Warner Robins High. Kirondria Smith, of Perry High, received a $1,000 scholarship. The teens were selected for their essays.
