A local high school student is in the running for a $7,500 prize.
Stratford Academy incoming senior Tejas Athni won the 2017 Georgia BioGENEius Challenge, which is for high school students who have done biotechnology research, in April. Now, he’ll compete at the International BioGENEius Challenge in San Diego, which begins Sunday. He’s one of 15 finalists from across the world, and the winner will be announced Tuesday.
Through his research, Athni showed that the extract of the Bacopa monnieri plant inhibits the growth of glioblastoma multiforme tumor cells. He was one of four winners in the 2017 Neuroscience Research Competition earlier this year for his project.
