When the call went out about 7:30 p.m., word was that a man inside a convenience store at 701 Eisenhower Parkway was loitering and begging for money.
While a Bibb County sheriff’s deputy was on his way there, someone at the store called 911 to report that the man “was tearing up the store,” a report of the Dec. 13 incident noted.
When the deputy arrived at the Express Food Mart, he saw that the front glass door was busted.
The clerk told him that the suspect was still inside — in the ceiling.
The man, 46, had apparently tried to steal four Little Debbie snack cakes. The clerk saw him and automatically locked the store’s door.
That’s when the man, who looked dirty and ragged, kicked at the door glass and then made for the store’s bathroom, where he jumped on top of a bathroom sink and shimmied into the ceiling.
The deputy told him several times to climb down.
When he did, he said he had swallowed four rocks of crack cocaine. He was taken to a hospital and later jailed for shoplifting, damaging property and other charges.
