A 37-year-old woman was wounded by a stray bullet in east Macon on Independence Day.
Arisa Curtis was sitting in the front yard of a house in the 500 block of Willingham Court, not far from Emery Highway and Coliseum Drive, about 10:30 p.m. when the bullet struck her left arm, Bibb County sheriff’s officials said.
It wasn’t clear where the bullet came from, but it may have come from someone firing a celebratory shot into the air, authorities said.
Sheriff David Davis said in a news release that Curtis was lucky she wasn’t seriously wounded.
“A bullet fired into the air must come down, often at nearly the same velocity as when it left the gun barrel,” Davis said.
Curtis was treated at Coliseum Hospital and released.
