A teen is dead and another is in jail following a shooting early Saturday in Monroe County that witnesses said was the result of horseplay with a gun.
The shooting happened at about 1:30 a.m. at 175 Rumble Road, according to a release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
Gabryon Walker, 17, was shot in the incident and taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. Two other teens who witnessed the shooting told deputies the suspect, Kaleb Oliver Greene, 18, fled into nearby woods, the release stated.
Deputies searched throughout the night along with tracking-dog teams from the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Greene was located several hours later at a home in Houston County, and was taken to the Monroe County jail. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, pointing a gun at another and reckless conduct.
Allison Selman-Willis, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department, said witnesses told investigators that Greene was engaged in “horseplay” with the gun when it fired.
She said the case remains under investigation and it’s possible the charges could change or that additional charges could be added.
