Suspect named in Club Status shooting in Macon

Investigators named a suspect in Wednesday’s fatal shooting outside Club Status, and they’ve asked for the public’s help in finding him.

Authorities obtained a warrant for Gregory Bernard Staten Jr.’s arrest on a murder charge. He is 24 years old, about 6-foot-1 and weighs about 190 pounds. He has a short haircut. He was last seen in a smoke-gray Jeep Cherokee with a brush guard attached to the front.

Staten has been in prison twice since 2011 and has been convicted of drug and dogfighting charges in Jones and Twiggs counties, authorities said.

The murder charge came after a shooting outside the club, located at 4740 Pio Nono Ave., that killed 29-year-old Aquallo Davis. He was pronounced dead at the scene after deputies working off-duty security at the club heard a gunshot in the rear parking lot there.

Anyone with information on Staten’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to leave a message for the on-call investigator or to call Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
