Fort Valley police on Friday asked for the public's help identifying an armed robbery suspect.

The man is suspected of shooting Dennis Patel, 54, in the upper torso at the Sky Beverage Store at 503 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Fort Valley Thursday morning.

"Subsequent investigation from the processing of the crime scene, witness interviews, and the victim's statement has produced a suspect in this incident," Chief Lawrence Spurgeon said in a post on the police department's Facebook page. "The pictures in this media release were recovered from the store's security cameras. We believe that someone knows this subject and are asking for the public's help in identifying him."

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his mid-to-late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with a slim build and short haircuit. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a Nike logo on the front, black pants and a "Marine-style" black hat, the Facebook post states.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Fort Valley police at 478-823-3384 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 478-742-2330.
