Suspected shooter who left woman critically injured taken to Bibb County Jail
A man faces aggravated assault charges Tuesday after a shooting in a Circle K in Macon left a woman critically injured, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Delmar Tavaris Eugene Black was taken to the Bibb County Jail Tuesday afternoon on several charges relating to a shooting Sunday at Circle K at 3391 Mercer University Dr.. A woman was shot and is in critical condition as of Tuesday, the news release said.
He faces aggravated assault, aggravated assault on law enforcement officers and felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers charges, the news release said. He’s also wanted in Turner County, 80 miles south of Macon.
Black is being held without bond.
Victim hit by vehicle after fleeing from suspect
The victim was having a verbal altercation with Black before she was shot in the parking lot. As she was fleeing, she was “struck by a vehicle traveling west on Mercer University Drive,” the news release said.
She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Black fled on a Buick Enclave, the news release said.
Deputies spotted Black at 7:35 p.m. Sunday. Black, who was armed, fled south on Harrison Road. The vehicle was immobilized north of Chambers Road. However, Black “refused to exit his vehicle and fired at deputies from inside the vehicle,” according to deputies.
Members of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team apprehended Black. He was treated on scene by paramedics before being transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Black may face additional charges, deputies said.
