A man allegedly caught stealing about $400 worth of plumbing tools and fixtures at a Lowe’s in Macon on Thursday is thought to have scammed other midstate Lowe’s stores out of an estimated $20,000.
A Bibb County sheriff’s report said the man, Marquez A. Veal, 25, of a Corbin Avenue address in Macon, took items from stores and then tried to return them for refunds.
An employee at the Lowe’s on Eisenhower Parkway across from Macon Mall on Thursday told deputies that Veal duped a female cousin into return $439 worth of plumbing gear Veal had taken from that store and another one.
Veal, the sheriff’s report said, has been banned from Lowe’s in Macon and Warner Robins for shoplifting.

In Thursday’s episode, authorities wise to the ruse stopped Veal’s cousin who phoned Veal and persuaded him to go to the store, the sheriff’s report said.
When he arrived and saw sheriff’s cars outside he drove off, said the report, which noted that warrants for Veal’s arrest would be sought.
