Macon man injured when shots fired outside alleged ‘shot house’

A man was injured when gunfire erupted Saturday morning outside an alleged “shot house” near Grosso Avenue and Mercer University Drive.

A shot house is a house where alcohol is sold illegally by the drink.

Quaterris Thomas, 26, of Macon, was walking in front of the house in the 2800 block of Mercer University Drive when two men shot in the direction of the house from an abandoned church parking lot on Grosso Avenue, a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release stated.

One of the bullets struck Thomas in the back. He was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he was listed in stable condition, the release stated.

The shooting occurred as people were leaving the house, the release stated. No one else was hurt.
