Shots fired in large fight at west Macon apartment complex

Gunfire rang out from multiple weapons Thursday afternoon after two cars drove into the parking lot of a west Macon apartment complex.

About 3:30 p.m., Bibb County sheriff’s deputies responded to shots fired at Westminster Apartments on North Atwood Drive off Mercer University Drive, said Lt. Randy Gonzalez, public information officer for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The people in the vehicles got out and started fighting before the shooting began.

Shots hit a building and a Chevrolet Suburban outside the apartments.

“The lady and her kid had just drove up and went into her apartment when she heard the gunshots,” Gonzalez said. “There was nobody in the vehicle during the shooting.”

At least nine shots were fired, according to evidence recovered at the scene.

By the time deputies arrived, the shooters had fled, and people at the complex could not give investigators much to go on.

“Nobody knows any of the people,” Gonzalez said.

No one was believed to have been wounded.
