Macon-Bibb launches probe after worker accused of theft

Macon-Bibb County will launch an internal investigation after Friday’s arrest of its HVAC Plumbing manager of the facilities management department.

Neal Thomas Davis, 59, is charged with three counts of theft by taking, posted a $12,150 bond and was released Saturday, according to Bibb County jail records.

The accusations are related to some of the county’s air compressors, said Chris Floore, Macon-Bibb County spokesman.

“There seems to be some serial numbers that don’t match,” Floore said.

A recent equipment audit showed the discrepancies.

“Based on what the initial audit found, the sheriff’s office felt there was enough to make an arrest,” Floore said.

It is possible the confusion stems from faulty paperwork, he said, but both the sheriff’s office and county investigations will gather evidence to determine exactly what happened.
