Former Bibb PTO treasurers indicted in theft cases

Bibb County grand jurors indicted former treasurers for two Bibb County elementary school PTO programs Tuesday in separate cases of alleged embezzlement.

Eloise Maxine Reid, 48, a former treasurer for Vineville Academy’s Parent Teacher Organization, and Jennifer Lynn Edwards, 39, a former treasurer for Skyview Elementary’s program, each are charged with fiduciary theft by taking, according to indictments filed in Bibb County Superior Court.

Reid allegedly wrote 19 checks, amounting to $33,975 taken, between April 19, 2013, and Aug. 11, 2014, according to the indictment. Each check signifies a separate count of theft.

The first check, written for $2,500, was the only one made payable to Reid. Others were made out to Divine Business Solutions, Divine Business Solutions and Services or DBS&S, according to the indictment.

The checks ranged in amount from $500 on a check made out to cash to $3,700. All but two checks were for amounts of at least $1,000.

Reid was released on $35,000 bond the day after her Aug. 21, 2014, arrest.

In a separate case, Edwards is charged with taking $8,416.29 between Feb. 2, 2014, and June 16, 2014, according to an indictment that alleges she made 38 unlawful withdrawals.

Only a March 2, 2014, check written for $1,000 was made out with Edwards as the payee. She allegedly wrote three checks payable to cash totalling $2,000.

She is accused of illegally using PTO funds to make purchases at Rite-Aid, DirecTV, Kroger, Ulta, Dairy Queen, Chi-ches-ter’s, Target, Lowe’s, Walgreens, McDonald’s, Wal-Mart, and the Corner Store. The transactions ranged in amount from $4.80 to $171.77.

Edwards also allegedly made illegal 16 bank counter or ATM withdrawals ranging in amount from $43 to $503.

She was released on $4,050 bond a few hours after her Sept. 12, 2014, arrest.
