Man charged after leading Monroe County deputies on chase

One of four people who fled a crash scene after being chased by Monroe County sheriff’s deputies has been charged.

Atlanta resident Derrick Devon Cousin, 39, was driving a black Chevrolet Impala on Saturday about 9 p.m. when a deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding and failure to maintain a lane, according to a news release. Cousin is accused of leading the deputy on a chase that ended on Ga. 87 in Flovilla when the vehicle crashed.

All four occupants fled the crash scene, and Cousin and a female passenger, who was not charged, were captured a short time later. Cousin was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer and obstruction of an officer, both felonies, along with numerous traffic offenses.

Two more males, both thought to be in their 20s, are still being sought in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information about the two fugitive suspects is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 478-994-7048.
