No foul play found in death of homeless man in Macon

A Tuesday morning autopsy showed no signs of foul play in the death of a 48-year-old homeless man found floating in the Ocmulgee River in Macon.

Shean Tyrone Atkinson died of accidental drowning, said Lt. Randy Gonzalez, a public information officer for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

“There was no physical injuries to indicate there was anything other than a drowning,” Gonzalez said.

Just before noon Sunday, kayakers found Atkinson’s naked body tangled in some branches.

Macon-Bibb firefighters recovered his body about 3 1/2 miles downstream from the Spring Street bridge.
