Charges filed against juveniles in Mercer car break-in

Charges have been filed against a pair of juveniles in connection with a Wednesday car break-in at Mercer University.

The juveniles, whose names are not being released by Mercer police, are both being charged with entering auto, aggravated assault with intent to rob, criminal street gang activity, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and theft by receiving stolen property.

A Mercer student who reported the incident said he saw the suspects next to a station wagon with a broken front window parked near the University Center, according to the incident report. The student yelled at the suspects, and one of them pointed a gun and reportedly yelled back, “Give me everything in your pockets or I’ll (expletive) kill you,” the report said.

From there, both the student and the suspects ran to hide, according to a report from Mercer police. The suspects were later located, as was a Ruger LCP .380 handgun found under some pine straw near the University Center. The suspects also were in possession of an iPod that the vehicle’s owner said had been taken, according to the report.
