Slain Monroe County deputy’s name to be added to memorial wall
The name of slain Monroe County sheriff’s deputy Michael Norris will be added to the Georgia Law Enforcement Moving Memorial Wall next Wednesday.
Norris was fatally shot Sept. 13, 2014, after he and another deputy went to a house on Haley Lane to help a man who was reportedly suicidal. Christopher Keith Calmer allegedly exchanged gunfire with the deputies.
Calmer has been charged with murder.

A ceremony to mark the addition of Norris’ name to the wall will be held in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office parking lot in Forsyth at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The memorial, sponsored by the Central Georgia Chapter XII of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and the Georgia Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors, includes the names of 678 law enforcement officers who died on duty, according to the release.
