A Bibb County man has been arrested on charges of identity theft and forgery.
Thomas Onyebuchi Hasstrup, 39, was initially arrested April 7 at his apartment at 200 Charter Lane and charged with two counts of identity theft, according to a Tuesday news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest came after investigators executing a search warrant seized a large quantity of counterfeit checks totaling more than $84,000 that had been written out from various accounts. Printers and other equipment were also seized, the release states.
Hasstrup was released on bond, but further investigation uncovered additional checks that reached more than $100,000, which led to four additional charges of third-degree forgery. He turned himself in Tuesday and was released from jail after posting a $7,400 bond.
