Shots fired in robbery attempt at south Macon store

Dollar General workers hid in the back of the store late Thursday night after a gunman outside demanded they open the locked door after closing time.

The would-be armed robber fired two shots, shattering the front glass and sending four employees scurrying for cover, including one who was standing just inside the front door at 4996 Bloomfield Road, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Unable to get in, the gunman ran away as three of the workers locked themselves in the office and another cowered in a corner at about 10:30 p.m.

The gunman is described as a black man, dressed in black and with part of his face covered. He held the gun in his right hand and had in his left hand what looked like a white bag, the release stated.
