Man dies after two people shot at Macon Gardens Apartments

Gunfire rang out just after 7 p.m. Thursday at Macon Gardens Apartments at 3601 Mercer University Drive.

Two people were shot and one man died in the emergency room at Medical Center, Navicent Health, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Tarvarous Veal, 19, of Woolfolk Street, was pronounced dead at 8:08 p.m., Jones said.

“He had a gunshot wound to the shoulder,” Jones said.

It appeared the bullet made it into the chest cavity, Jones said, but an autopsy will determine exactly how Veal died.

The other victim, who is believed to be in his early 20s but whose name was not immediately available, was wounded in both legs, Jones said.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating Thursday night’s shooting. Veal’s death marks the second homicide in the county in a little more than 12 hours.

An alleged intruder was shot to death just after 6:30 a.m. Thursday on Suzanne Drive.
