Bibb deputies nab robbery suspect targeting friends

A man accused of robbing friends tried to outrun Bibb County sheriff’s deputies but was arrested after crashing his truck early Friday.

Deputies had been looking for 50-year-old Arthur Dale Brewer since shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday when a robbery victim identified the Lizella man as the man who attacked him at his house on Tucker Valley Road, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The 67-year-old victim said he lent Brewer money and he returned an hour later, assaulted him and took his wallet. The man suffered a small cut to his head and was treated at the scene.

About three hours later, a 60-year-old man whom Brewer visits occasionally on Forest Place told deputies that Brewer took a rifle from him and shoved him to the ground, the release stated.

He saw Brewer leave in a Chevrolet pickup that a deputy spotted at 12:30 a.m. Friday in the 4000 block of Mercer University Drive.

Brewer refused to stop and led officers on a chase that ended when he crashed on Brown Drive at Moseley Dixon Road.

He was treated for minor injuries at the scene and taken to jail where he faces charges of aggravated assault, robbery, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, according to Bibb jail records.
