A Macon man is in jail, accused of the assault and attempted rape of a woman Friday night in an abandoned house.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office charged Jesse Edward Ramsey III, 40, on Saturday evening with kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault and attempted rape, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The jail website shows additional charges of a parole violation and a felony probation violation.
The Georgia Department of Corrections website says Ramsey was paroled from Hancock State Prison less than three months ago, on a 20-year sentence for a 2008 aggravated assault conviction, and a 5-year sentence on a false imprisonment charge from a 2006 incident. Bibb County Superior Court records show he made a plea agreement to the aggravated assault charge, which says he hit a woman and knocked her tooth out. The Department of Corrections and Superior Court records also show an earlier sentence for possession of cocaine.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a woman told them Friday night that she’d been walking along Toombs Street coming from a store on Houston Avenue when she was attacked from behind and taken to an abandoned house elsewhere on Toombs Street. She fought with the man for several minutes, got away and ran for help.

She was taken to a hospital and treated for her injuries.
Deputies said they arrested Ramsey after getting a report of a man matching the description given by the woman. They found him in the 800 block of Chatham Street and brought him in for questioning. He was later charged.
