Arsonist could be to blame for Macon's overnight fires

Macon-Bibb County firefighters suspect one person is responsible for setting several fires early Thursday.

The back porch was set ablaze of a one-story vacant house at 278 Pansy Ave. at about 4:30 a.m.

The flames spread inside that house, said District Chief John Malcom.

That fire followed a tow truck fire on Mimosa Drive and five vehicle fires on Log Cabin Drive.

"We believe they are all tied together, for what reason, we do not know," Malcom said.

Arson investigator Capt. Tom Musselwhite visited the scenes early Thursday and is compiling evidence for prosecution.
