Macon police are investigating a shooting that took place early Thursday morning on Meadowbrook Drive in the Log Cabin area, according to a police news release.
Officers responded to a call about 12:30 a.m. at The Medical Center of Central Georgia about a person who had been shot in the abdomen, police said.
The victim, later identified in a police report as Dexter Haywood, 41, told officers he was taking out his trash when he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen. A friend noticed he was bleeding, and the man drove himself to the hospital. The victim told officers he didn’t hear a gunshot or see a muzzle flash.
When officers searched the area, they found blood and possibly a piece of crack cocaine in the victim’s truck, which was still in front of his house, the report said. The report said the victim didn’t know how the blood got there.
He then became uncooperative and told officers he wanted no further investigation, the news release said.
