Milledgeville cab driver injured in armed robbery

A Milledgeville cab driver was cut early Wednesday morning in an armed robbery on North Columbia Street.

About 12:30 a.m. at America’s Best Value Inn, Jessica Ann Owens, 23, picked up a man who asked to be dropped off at the AutoZone at 1841 N. Columbia St., where the man tried to take the driver’s purse, said Capt. Dray Swicord of the Milledgeville Police Department.

Owens grabbed a hunting knife, and the man took it away from her and cut her before he grabbed the purse and ran toward the Castlewoods neighborhood on Dunlap Road, Swicord said.

Owens was treated and released from Oconee Regional Medical Center early Wednesday, he said.

The robber is described as a black man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
