A Dodge County school board member was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol this week after she was involved in a traffic accident, records show.
Darla Jarrell Yearty was driving south on Ogden Street in the rain Tuesday just before 10 p.m. when she hit an unattended tractor-trailer parked on the right side of the road, according to an Eastman Police Department accident report.
Yearty told police she saw a cat on the left side of the road near a house at Ogden and Third Avenue. She said she thought the cat might run out in front of her Ford F250, and she did not see the tractor-trailer, which was parked improperly, the report indicates. She hit the trailer on the left corner, the report said.
A field sobriety test showed that Yearty’s blood-alcohol level measured 0.152, according to the report. In Georgia, a driver is considered legally intoxicated at 0.08.
An attempt to reach Yearty on Friday was not successful.
