Macon police are asking the public to help them find an armed robber who shot an off-duty Bibb County sheriff’s deputy early Sunday.
Deputy Jimmy Goolsby was in stable condition with a non-life-threatening injury late Monday, a day after a bullet struck his left elbow. Goolsby was working security at VFW Post 9709 at 711 Key St. when he was shot about 3 a.m. Sunday.
Police recovered the assailant’s clothing and handgun near Anthony Road. In a statement, Macon police said the suspect is a black male about 6 feet 2 inches tall, who had been wearing a thin, white hooded T-shirt. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Macon Police Department at (478) 751-7500, the sheriff’s office at (478) 746-9441, or CrimeStoppers at (877) 68-CRIME. CrimeStoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in this case.
