Macon Police Department officials say they are looking for a man in connection with the early morning shooting of an off-duty Bibb County sheriff’s deputy.
A department release states the suspect shouted “give it up,” before firing several shots into a group about 3 a.m. Sunday in the front parking lot at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9079, at 711 Key St.
Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy Jimmy Goolsby, 53, who was working a security detail at the VFW, was shot in the left elbow. No other injuries have been reported.
Despite his injuries, Goolsby chased the suspect on foot for a brief period but quickly lost contact. He was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, where he underwent surgery Sunday morning.
Macon police officers have recovered what they believe to be the suspect’s clothing and handgun, found near the scene of the shooting. Anyone with information is being asked to call the Macon Police Department at 751-7500, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 746-9441, or CrimeStoppers at (877) 68-CRIME.
