Neighborhoods throughout Macon will participate Tuesday in National Night Out.
The event’s goal is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, according to a police news release.
Maconites also are encouraged to lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police, city officials and firefighters, according to the release.
Neighborhoods will host activities including cookouts, block parties, parades and games, according to the release.A kick-off event will be held at Macon City Hall at 5:30 p.m.
The Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management agency is hosting daytime festivities in Central City Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Games and activities for children will be offered.
