A man selling newspapers at a street corner Sunday foiled two armed robbery attempts, according to a news release from the Macon Police Department.
The attempts happened within minutes of each other about 3:40 p.m. at the corner of Log Cabin Drive and Napier Avenue. Anthony Hearvey was selling The Telegraph when he was approached by two black males who tried to rob him at gunpoint.
The attempt failed, although the news release does not say why.
A few minutes later one of the would-be robbers came back to Hearvey, displayed a weapon and demanded money. Hearvey did not comply and ran into a store. After police were given a description of the criminal, they spotted a suspect near the crime scene, chased him down arrested him.
The suspect, a juvenile, was brought back to the crime scene and identified by Hearvey. Police were looking for the other robbery suspect late Sunday.
