Centerville man accused of trying to run over officer

Macon police arrested a man early Sunday morning and charged him with aggravated assault on a peace officer after he allegedly tried to run over an officer after being pulled over because of a suspected DUI, a report stated.

Police arrested Charles Michael Riley, 36, of Centerville, and charged him with obstruction, DUI, driving with a suspended license and fleeing/attempting to elude in addition to the assault charges.

According to the report, officers pulled Riley over at about 2 a.m. and detected the odor of alcohol and noticed Riley was slurring his words. When officers directed Riley to a designated spot to conduct a field sobriety test, Riley instead accelerated toward one of the officers, the report stated.

Officers caught up with Riley at the intersection of Houston Avenue and Guy Paine Road, where they were able to block his vehicle. He was then arrested and transported to the Bibb County jail.
