Man shot in foot in fight outside Macon package store

A man was shot in the foot Saturday night during a fight at an east Macon package store, according to a news release from the Macon Police Department. The shooting happened at 9:19 p.m. at the Fort Hawkins Package Store, located at 890 Emery Highway.

Terico Balkcom, 31, was shot in the right foot. A friend drove Balkcom to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the news release.

Investigators learned there had been an altercation among several men earlier in the evening at the package store.

One of the men involved returned later to seek revenge. This led to a fight in which somebody was hit with a piece of rebar.

A car pulled up to the scene and somebody in the car fired several rounds, one of which struck Balkcom. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call Macon police at 751-7500 or Macon Regional CrimeStoppers at (877) 68-CRIME.
