Man shot in leg in parking lot of north Macon eatery

A man was shot in the leg early Sunday in the parking lot of a north Macon Waffle House, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened about 3:25 a.m. at the Waffle House restaurant at 3907 Arkwright Road. According to witnesses, a fight broke out in the parking lot of the Waffle House. After the fight was over, DeMichael Wilmore, 19, walked outside the restaurant to check on a female friend.

A man brandished a handgun and shot Wilmore just below the knee, then left the scene in a green truck. The suspect was described as a black male wearing black cargo pants and two white T-shirts, one of which he used to cover his face.

Wilmore was taken to a hospital, where he received treatment for his gunshot wound. He was released about 7 a.m. Sunday.
