Man charged with arson of murder suspect’s home

An east Macon man has been arrested on an arson charge in the torching of a murder suspect’s house on Mogul Road.

Jarraiun T. Ussery, 21, is charged with arson in the first degree after investigators found multiple points of origin for the fire that happened early Saturday at Clarence Stewart’s home just hours after the shooting death of 19-year-old Ernest James III, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Stewart is charged with aggravated assault and felony murder in James’ death. Stewart is accused by police of shooting James in the head during an argument about trespassing on Stewart’s property about 2:15 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters reported seeing Ussery and another person running from behind the house when they arrived at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Investigators found traces of ignitable liquids on Ussery’s hands, the news release stated.

Ussery was arrested Wednesday evening at his home in King’s Park
