Trespassing argument leads to shooting in Macon

A 62-year-old man is accused of shooting a man in the head Friday after an argument about people trespassing in his yard, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Clarence Stewart, of Mogul Road, is charged with aggravated assault in connection with Stewart shooting 19-year-old Ernest James III of Macon, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Deputies received reports that Stewart was having problems with people in the neighborhood trespassing on his property.

While standing in his front yard, Stewart argued with several people in his neighbor’s yard about the trespassing issues just before 2:15 p.m. Friday, according to the release.

During an argument with James, Stewart went into his house and retrieved a handgun. When he went outside, he shot James in the head, according to the sheriff’s office.

James was taken to a local hospital by ambulance where he is listed in critical condition, according to the release.
